I am happy with the delivery of my persuasive speech. As usual I was nervous, but I do feel that I have improved from my last few speeches. I hope that continued practice in public speaking, will eventually lead to my ability to find comfort in it; but until then, I will continue to be as well prepared as possible to insure my success. I think following the sample outlines has helped me deliver a well-organized speech. Since I knew the expectation Professor MacManimon had for us, it was easier for me follow through. I still do not enjoy public speaking, but I hope that my readiness and knowledge about the content I am discussing, transcends my insecurity in front of the class.
ReplyDeletethree positive points would be my research was good, i knew what i was talking about, and my powerpoint was strong. I need to improve on slowing down my speech when i talk. Also organizing my information a little better and working on the outline a little more. I always get nervous and public speaking scares em, but hopefully by the end of this semester i will be strong and confident when i public speak. I will have gained the knowledge to become a better speaker. Every time i get up i feel a little more confident when i do it. I hope this class will finally shake off my fears when i public speak and i can become a better teacher and public speaking when all is said and done.
ReplyDeleteThree positive points would be, I deff was fully confident in my content knowledge, I felt that my powerpoint was strong and I gave good eye contact. I was very nervous with this speech because of my outline, I felt that it was alot to remember and grasp. I felt more confident with this speech then I did with my passion speech. I have to work on not putting so much information on my power point and sticking to that 6 by 6 rule and also not putting so much on my notecards. I never been one to be nervous while talking in front of people but i guess when it is for a grade it scares me. I think I am more worried about getting a lower grade then anything else. I know at the end of this class all my hard work will pay off.
ReplyDeleteThree positive points from my persuasive speech were my organization, my research, and my power point. I felt my research was solid because it supported my side of the topic strongly by providing statistics and testimonials. In addition, I believe my evidence and reasoning was strong based on how I tried to simplify what might seem like a topic heavily centered around economics and complications while clearing up any misconceptions. I tried my best to make sure I followed Monroe's Motivated Sequence in its entirety; however, I discovered my benefits and plan of action, which did not give my audience a direction in achieving it, were out of place. I felt this was my worst speech so far and unfortunately it was the most important. My biggest fear in public speaking is not speaking in front of the class, but not being consistent. I had no conversational tone, an unbalanced tone and pace, relied too much on my note cards, weak eye contact, and a weak conclusion with an abrupt ending. These were all areas I was doing a decent job in containing, but disregarded for this speech. I'm not going to make excuses about the difficulty of this speech. Communication is difficult at best, remember? I still need to improve on effective techniques and solidify the techniques I can already execute well. Three improvements? Stay consistent, practice more, and execute all the techniques I've learned at the highest level possible.
ReplyDeleteI felt that my persuasive speech wasn’t too bad. I felt that it was better than my passion because it was a topic I could take a side on. I think some of my weaknesses were that I wasn’t making as much eye contact as I should have, I was sticking to my cards a little bit too much, and I felt like I might not have followed Monroe’s Motivated Sequence perfectly. Seeing as it was my first time using the Motivated Sequence I was still getting a feel for how my facts should be layed out in that format. I believe that some of my strengths were my facts, my topic was something my audience could relate to and easily understand, and I was confident in my power point presentation. I think that bringing in the article about the landfills and lower birth rates gave the speech some more emotional impact and helped to keep my audience’s attention. Developing the skills necessary to delivering solid speeches isn’t easy, but I feel that I can continue improving on my delivery and audience adaptation more and more.
ReplyDeleteI was really happy with how well this speech went for me. I knew from my previous speeches that preperation and practice were two things that I needed to work on, so that is where I focused most of my efforts for this speech. I feel that it really paid off in that I knew I had strong material which gave me extra confidence while I was delivering the speech. Also, the practice made me appear more comfortable in front of my audience or perhaps I was more comfortable in front of my audience.
ReplyDeleteThere were a couple of areas that I would still like to work on. My preview statement was too wordy and came across confusing. Also my conclusion dragged on longer than necessary. In my next speech I plan on limiting my preview and my conclusion to something more basic yet still clear.
I liked the way my Persuasive Speech turned out. I felt that it was an improvement overall from my other speeches. I think I picked a topic that adapted well to the audience, had good sources, and that I spoke a little slower this time. I think I could have done a better job with eye contact, trying to keep my voice at an even slower pace, and trying to get off of the notecards a little more. Personally, I think this was my best speech this semester. I'd imagine it is because I've learned from the other two speeches. I liked Monroe's Motivated Sequence. I thought it was very clear about how the information was to be laid out.
ReplyDeleteI liked to work on this speech since I learned a lot from it and hope others did too. I finally pulled myself together and used the citation page that I forgot to add on the other speeches. I really should have practiced more, but since all of the other classes are crazier than this one I didn't have the time and that was what killed it. Of course the hands in my pockets, I guess the fact that I didn't have a clicker this time, I didn't know what to do with them and natural thing to do seemed to keep them in the safety of my pockets.
ReplyDeleteOf all my speeches so far this one I definitely felt more confident. I was nervous but after asking a question before my speech, it helped break the ice. This speech was also very research intensive compared to the last. as for my improvement other then confidence I was more excited and into the subject. Unfortunatly I still feel that im looking at the note cards and not looking at the audencie enough. compared to the earlier speeches I did improve. further down the line I will look at the audence more, be more excited about the subject and not look at the note cards.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this speech and definitely improved greatly on my delivery skills. I wasn't very nervous so i believe this burst of confidence truly enabled me to improve. I felt the most prepared for this speech and i practiced it out loud in front of my mom before class which was beneficial to its positive outcome. I am happy to say that my skills have surely improved since the beginning of the semester. 4 strengths for this speech - good preparation, confidence, better organization, and i knew the topic really well. 3 improvements - shouldn't be looking at the notecards so much, could have added a few more relevant sources, should've taken some pictures of the entrees.
ReplyDeleteI started out the beginnings of preparation for this speech with the "Psycho" and "Marley and Me" comparison, which I had in mind to use in a speech since the beginning of the semester that I felt would be best saved for the persuasive speech. This was most definitely the toughest speech to put together, using Monroe's motivated sequence and putting it in one order for the outline and a completely different order for the PowerPoint and speech itself. It was challenging, but really interesting to see all of the pieces come together for the speech and to see my thoughts about the subject get put from my mind to paper from start to finish.
ReplyDeleteI thought the speech went rather well, and I was into it much more during the delivery than I was while putting together the PowerPoint for it. I suprised myself with how well I came across on the day of delivery. I believe I used Monroe's Motivated Sequence well, as I got the attention of the audience, created a need, discussed ways that satisfaction of the need could be met, visualized the results, and led the audience to take action.
Three strengths that I could draw out from this speech would be that my outline and research were well written and extensive, I maintained constant eye contact with the audience, and I was confident in the material I was presenting. Three improvements would be cutting down or stopping my hand movements completely, not relying so much on the cards to get me through, and adding research to the first set of benefits I wrote in my speech.
