  1. Boy was I nervous! I don't think I'm good at telling a funny story, or any story, for that matter. I relied a lot on my powerpoint to add humor to my speech, which I think worked in my favor. Once again I tried not to use my notecards that much and to make good eye contact.

As far as the elements of humor I used in my speech, I believe I used them all without even realizing it. I used myself by relating the speech to how beauty pageants have changed since the time when I was in them. I used others (a lot), specifically in my powerpoint. I built bridges by using the Top Ten to lead up to my number one. The pictures in my powerpoint brought the element of surprise, and I "changed the peg"/"pulled the switch" by comparing the pageant contestants to porn stars, strippers and Snookie.

I still don't think I'm funny, but I can come up with a decent powerpoint to give the illusion that I am. The audience seemed to like it so I was pleased.

  2. I agree, I don’t think I am a great story teller either, and I thought it would be hard for me to try and be funny while doing a presentation. At times I was nervous and didn’t keep the best posture, but for the most part I felt really calm about this speech because of my topic. I chose to talk about a few really dumb/dangerous things that I have done in the past. It was easy to do this because it was personal, which also helped me effectively use all the elements of humor.
I used myself and others in each of my stories because they all involved my friends and I. In my story about throwing snowballs on the parkway, I was able to build bridges by using pictures in my PowerPoint, and have them kind of tell the story. I then jumped into the element of surprise when I explained how we saw some guy sprinting up the shoulder of the parkway towards us. I used other sources when I explained the test that had to do with drawing a picture of a house and a person. I also “changed the peg” by comparing something me and my friend saw on COPS with something we tried to do.
I thought the adaptation of my content to the audience was good because it was something everyone can relate to – being a kid and doing stupid things. I think the pictures that went along with each story were good too because it gives the audience the feeling like they were there when it happened.

  3. I think I did pretty good. I certainly used a lot techniques. I tried to do like a TV show, something like David Letterman telling different stories and finding a way to connect it all together. I modeled my top ten list the way he does it on his show which I think turned out very well. I definitely feel comfortable using power point and money of its features. I feel I can be funny giving the time to think and plan at now but not in at the spur of the moment. I do sort of enjoy going to this class because of all of our group work and speaking to each other is not something I get outside of class. I just have to remember to speak slowly and stay calm.

  4. I thought mine was funny. I used most of the elements described in class. The influence came from my experiences with some of my friends on the phone. With so many long pauses, pointless conversations, and going over my allowed minutes each month, I find myself just texting now and avoiding calls as much as possible. Since there was no computer in class when I did my speech, I tried to be animated when demonstrating a conversation between 2 callers. I was very nervous during my speech but it turned out to be a good speech.

  5. I thought I did a pretty good job making people laugh in my entertainment speech. Although I was not able to use the picture I really wanted to embarrass my Dad, the picture I was able to have still gave the effect I needed to get across. I used Building Bridges, Pulling the Switch, using myself, using a friend and element of suprise. This was one of my favorite speeches that I did. It reminded me how good my memorization skills are and how well I can do without relying on my note cards all the time. Overall I was really happy with my speech, I still need to work on saying things, stuff and ummm all the time, but I do catch myself saying it so it is a start to admit now I just have to fix it.
